APPLICATION PROFILE
Drill / Screw Gun Torque Setting Ring

Our customer's original design called for the use of hot stamping or pad printing to create the torque setting legend for their new Drill/Screw Gun. They had concerns, however, about the legend wearing off through frequent use. To address this durability issue, Thermotech suggested the use of 2-shot molding as an alternate method for creating the legend. This would produce plastic settings that would be integral to the part, as opposed to numbers printed with ink or film after molding.

A creative approach to tooling was designed by Thermotech to achieve this product. The tooling was especially challenging due to the multiple cams required to create the 12 radial numbers. All of the cams needed to be pulled simultaneously in different directions, resulting in a particularly inventive mold.

Application: Drill / Screw Gun Torque Setting Ring

Materials: Polycarbonate and Nylon

Challenges:
  • Creating Radial Numbers with the 1st Shot
